Freshwater Pearls

2011 marks the 30th Anniversary of the Alexandra Writers’ Centre Society. To celebrate this milestone AWCS and Recliner Books (www.reclinerbooks.com) put together an anthology showcasing the writing talents of our members, past and present, and all those that have contributed in some way to the success of the organization, be it, past or current instructors, volunteers, or writers in residence. Submissions closed December 15, 2010 and the response was overwhelming. In January 2011, the anthology committee began the task of reading all the submissions. Joan Shillington and Bob Stallworthy graciously read all the poetry submissions and chose 21 poems for inclusion. Shirley Black, Ellen Kelly, Betty Jane Hegerat, Inge Trueman, Robin van Eck, Barb Howard and Bob Laws took on the fiction and creative non-fiction submissions. We are so pleased with the quality of work that was produced and submitted, and it saddened us that due to space constraints we were only able to accept 21 prose pieces for inclusion. As an addition, we decided to create a Freshwater Pearls Online supplement in which we will feature additional pieces leading up to the launch of the Freshwater Pearls Anthology.
